On February 25th to 26th, SSAPs and RPSPs finished our second session of mediation in Sacramento with UC management through the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).

In this most recent session, we reached tentative agreements on Immigration and Training and Development:

  • Immigration: Ensures protected leave to attend immigration hearings and manage legal issues; also ensures reemployment rights should work-authorization force a temporary loss of status (this is an historic, first-of-its-kind article for a staff contract!)
  • Training and Development: Guarantees release time for professional training and development, allowing SSAPs and RPSPs to develop new skills, build their networks, and advance their careers

While the content of these sessions are confidential, one thing we can say is that they have been tough. By failing to resolve their unfair labor practices, management is preventing progress on key issues like wages, benefits, retirement, and telecommuting agreements. We’ve only been able to make the important progress we’ve made thus far by demonstrating that we will hold management accountable to their obligation to bargain in good faith. And to reach a full and fair agreement, we’ll need to continue to do just that.

That’s why it’s essential to RSVP for the Last Chance Picket & Day of Visibility organized by RPSPs, SSAPs, and ASEs at every campus – Thursday, March 12th from 12 PM to 2PM!
