After an immense display of unity and readiness to strike against UC management’s unlawful bargaining practices, a full tentative agreement has been reached! After round the clock negotiations fueled by the momentum of the Last Chance Pickets, the Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAP-UAW) and Research and Public Service Professionals (RPSP-UAW) bargaining teams have tentatively agreed with UC management on a historic first contract. The Academic Student Employee bargaining unit has also reached a tentative agreement. No strike is being called.
Workers will vote on whether to ratify these TAs this coming week from 9:00 AM on Tuesday, March 17 to 5:00 PM on Friday, March 20.
If this contract is ratified, SSAPs and RPSPs will have won:
- A minimum of 27.8% raises over four years through the creation of a step wage system, plus a ratification bonus
- A fair and enforceable process to request reclassification and address career stagnation
- Caps on health insurance premium increases
- Enforceable measures to prevent unreasonable workloads
- Enforceable protections for hybrid and remote work arrangements and fair processes for requesting new arrangements
- Increased job security
- And many more rights and protections…
Look out for a complete summary and draft of the full tentative agreement to review soon. For now, let’s prepare to make sure as many of our coworkers as possible participate in next week’s vote on whether to ratify a first contract.
In solidarity,
