I hope you are looking forward to the long weekend for Cesar Chavez Day. This year, I’m celebrating Cesar Chavez’s legacy by inviting colleagues to join me in signing union authorization cards to form our own union of research and public service professionals.

Many of the benefits we have today as UC employees are the result of labor organizing by workers like Cesar Chavez. I’m excited to be working together with other staff to gain a greater voice in our own workplace, especially now as we face attacks on our rights and insecurity in our jobs. Another important step staff are taking to defend UC from funding cuts is participating in a national day of action on April 8th to pressure state and federal lawmakers to kill the cuts. Also, I’m happy to share that Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association along with Cesar Chavez, made this video for us UC staff in solidarity with our efforts to unionize.
