Last Thursday, November 20th, thousands of Academic Student Employees (ASEs), Research and Public Service Professionals (RPSPs), and Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAPs) rallied together statewide across every campus to let UC management know that academic employees and staff stand united and ready to do what’s necessary to achieve fair contracts.
Speakers at each campus shared powerful experiences that revealed how priorities like fair wages, childcare benefits, and job security deeply affect the lives of so many of us. The University of California is the best public research institution in the world; UC management has an obligation to treat all the workers that keep it running with the respect and dignity we deserve. It’s in these moments of collective action that we see the power we have when we come together.
Despite the meager proposals from UC management at the previous bargaining session, the pressure SSAPs and RPSPs exerted on the UC resulted in several new, intensive blocks of bargaining dates listed in the table below.
SSAPs and RPSPs expect UC to get serious and show up with real movement toward a just contract in the upcoming bargaining sessions. The sooner we have our first contracts, the more energy we can collectively focus on protecting the UC from government funding cuts. Right now, thousands of us are signing onto this letter in strong support of the California Science Bond, Senate Bill 607 (Wiener, 2025). Add your name here!
Reminder: the RPSP-UAW Bargaining Team Vacancy Election is ongoing from today to Wednesday, 5 PM PST. An invitation to a secret ballot was sent today at 9 AM today to each RPSP from a secure online voting platform, Simply Voting (vote [at] simplyvoting [dot] com) with the subject line “Your Ballot for the RPSP-UAW 2025 Vacancy Election”.
