On every UC campus, workers in dozens of different roles are bargaining for contracts that will protect and improve our jobs. Together, we are 40,000 Research and Public Service Professionals (RPSPs), Academic Student Employees (ASEs), and Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAPs) keeping UC’s educational, research, and public service mission alive every day. Rather than working with us to ensure that we can continue doing those jobs to the best of our abilities, management has instead chosen to repeatedly break the law in negotiations with all three UAW units.
But right now, thousands of workers have committed to vote YES to authorize a strike if management does not resolve the Unfair Labor Practices that are holding us back from reaching fair contracts. Hear from some of your colleagues across UC about why they’re voting!
Management has violated the law by committing unilateral changes to working conditions, such as cutting ASE’s hours and making sudden changes to work location for staff. Additionally, our elected Bargaining Committees have requested that management provide vital information to help inform our negotiations over salaries, benefits and more. Management has a legal obligation to provide this information, but they’re choosing to break the law and withhold it.
All together, these and other ULPs are seriously delaying workers’ efforts to reach fair contracts. Without fair contracts, more and more SSAPs, RPSPs, and ASEs will be pushed out of UC, disrupting life-saving research and student support.
On February 5th, thousands of workers will vote to authorize our Bargaining Committees to call ULP strikes if circumstances justify. By joining your coworkers, in committing to vote YES, you are making this vote all the more persuasive. Let’s show management there is no time to waste.
