On Tuesday, thousands of UC Research and Public Services professionals and other higher education workers in UAW stood up to defend UC’s budget and research mission. Our rallies across all 10 campuses made the news statewide and raised the pressure on elected representatives to combat the funding cuts that threaten our jobs, our communities, and the health of our nation. Now’s the time to join the majority and sign your card to gain a stronger voice in the face of assaults on our work and safety.
Here at UC, there are over 140,000 unionized employees who show up to work everyday making our institution the greatest research facility in the world. Employees unionized with UAW, the largest union for professional staff and academic workers at UC, have been able to achieve wins in pay raises, benefits, job protections, and more. The majority of UC employees already have a seat at the table to negotiate with UC and a strong political voice to stand up for themselves and their colleagues in the CA statehouse and in Washington. Now is a critical time for research and public services professionals to have the same say about our jobs, our profession, and the future of research.
To gain more power to protect ourselves in these perilous times, and to continue the defense of reason, science, and public health, sign your card today to ensure that RPSPs have a future just as bright and powerful as our staff and academic professional colleagues who’ve already advanced their rights by joining UAW.
